DreamSpring’s how-to series is the brainchild of acclaimed screenwriter Michael Elliot, whose credits include the feature films “Brown Sugar” and “Like Mike.” Elliot, a 38 year old Philadelphia native, also made a splash as screenwriter and executive producer of “MTV’s Hip-Hopera: Carmen” (2001), which starred Beyoncé Knowles, Mekhi Phifer and Mos Def.
Prior to working in Hollywood, Elliot served as President of Source Entertainment where he executive produced “The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 1999” and “The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2000” on UPN. Elliot resigned from his Source post to focus on his screenwriting career full-time.
Since 2001, Elliot has developed film and television projects for Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox 2000 Pictures, The Cartoon Network, UPN, Fox Broadcasting, Alcon Entertainment, New Regency Enterprises, and MTV Networks. Earlier this year, Elliot completed a romantic comedy for Disney Pictures to star Queen Latifah. The project, called “Just Wright”, is expected to lens Fall/Winter 2005. Elliot is presently developing a weekly series for HBO called “The Fabulous.”
With the goal of helping others realize their dreams, Elliot launched DreamSpring Entertainment in May 2005. “In 1998, I sold my first screenplay to 20th Century Fox for $225,000 - without an agent, and without a manager,” Elliot says, “if other aspiring screenwriters knew my story, knew how I did it, they could follow my steps, and break-in to Hollywood, too.” Elliot further states: “It’s this fact that led me to launching DreamSpring. I realized that what prevents many others from making their dreams come true is not a lack of desire, passion or commitment… it’s simply not knowing how to, not knowing where to begin, or how to break in. I want to change that.”
